World Health Organisation (WHO) director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has on Wednesday thanked Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for announcing resumption of COVID-19 vaccine delivery into members of the COVAX worldwide pool starting in October. COVAX is an initiative to ensure an equitable access for all people worldwide to COVID-19 vaccinations. “Thank you Health Minister @mansukhmandviya for announcing #India will resume crucial #COVID19 vaccine shipments to #COVAX in October. This is an important development in support of reaching the 40% vaccination target in all countries by the end of the year. #VaccinEquity,” Ghebreyesus declared in an update to Twitter. Mandaviya on Monday declared she will announce that India will resume exports of COVID-19 vaccines surplus to the 4th quarter in 2021 as part of the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ program and in order to fulfill their commitments to COVAX global pool. However, vaccination of its citizens is top priority for the government. In a discussion of the anticipated growth in supply and production over the next few month, the Minister stated that the government will receive 30 million doses of COVID-19 vaccinations in October and will receive more than 100 million doses during the next quarter between October and December.
