Fun Social Distancing Hobbies to Pick up This Summer

If you’re looking for something fun and interactive to do this summer, you may be faced with a few challenges. Because of the pandemic, we have to practice social distancing to keep ourselves, family members, friends, and coworkers safe. Fortunately, there are still some things you can do to spending quality time with loved ones and get some much-needed fresh air while still staying safe. Here are some enjoyable social distancing hobbies to pick up this summer.

Nature Journaling

This form of journaling is a great way to remember the beauty you see in nature while expressing your feelings and thoughts. Take a scrapbook with you when you take a walk or hike, or when you sit in your front or backyard getting some fresh air. You can place flower petals or leaves in the scrapbook pages to preserve them, then write about a revelation or expression thought that occurred to you while you observed these elements of nature.

You can participate in this activity alone or with friends since you can still be practicing social distancing while spending some time outside of the house.

Off-Roading

If you have a sense of adventure and want to experience your city or region in a new way, you can search online for off-road parts and build your own off-roading vehicle with friends or family. You’ll be able to spend more time outdoors as you observe the natural landscape of your area.

Depending on how many parts or vehicles you purchase, you and your friends can race in a safe area for an enjoyable summer activity you won’t soon forget.

Yoga

Outdoor yoga can be a fulfilling experience since you’re able to experience the sights and sounds of nature while engaging in stretches and poses that can improve your health. You can safely socially distance while engaging in an outdoor yoga class.

Or, you can do yoga at home by following along with a video or app. If you want to spend time in the water during the summer, you can take up paddleboard yoga. Check online to see if these classes are offered in your area.

Art Class

Some art teachers are offering outdoor classes to keep you safe during the pandemic and allow you to enjoy the pleasant summer weather. Many classes that are held at a community center or art studio practice social distancing and require you to wear a mask in class for safety. If you’ve always wanted to know how to paint or make pottery, attend an art class in your city. You can invite friends to participate in the class with you so you can still create memories with loved ones while staying safe during the pandemic.

Gardening

Gardening is an ideal summer activity since it helps you learn about how certain plants will grow in your soil. Gardening can be a great workout as well and allows you to get some fresh air. You can participate in this activity alone or with family members who live in the same household. If you’re new to gardening, you may want to start with herbs or flowers that sprout quickly.

Once you see the harvest you’ve produced, you’ll be more likely to keep up with this worthwhile hobby. You may also be inspired to make a few new dishes using ingredients from your garden.

Virtual Wine Tasting or Supper Club

If the summer is usually the time you catch up with friends and relatives, you may be missing social gatherings this season. However, you can start a virtual supper club or wine tasting club with your loved ones to stay connected and try some tasty new foods and beverages.

Send a menu and wine list to your friends the week before your virtual meeting so everyone can prepare for the meal you’ll prepare together. Even though you won’t be able to meet up physically, you can still spend the evening talking to your friends and enjoying a delicious meal together.

These are just a few of the social distancing activities you can add to your summer schedule. As you discover hobbies that you enjoy, you may want to continue engaging in these activities even after social distancing is no longer required.
